Giant Eagle, Inc. Thanks Laura Karet for Years of Service as It Looks Towards Continued Evolution and Growth in the New Fiscal Year

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As Giant Eagle, Inc. begins its new fiscal year with excitement, the company wants to recognize and thank former Chair and CEO Laura Shapira Karet for her more than 22 years of service to the company.

Under Laura’s leadership, Giant Eagle continued its history of being a beloved household brand, expanded into new regions, and continued its growth in the highly competitive retail food industry. Laura pushed the organization toward next generation technology and capabilities, spearheading the transformation of Giant Eagle’s technology platform to a modern, flexible, cloud-based system. These advancements have enabled Giant Eagle to stay ahead of ever-evolving trends in retail, e-commerce, customer behavior and supply chain, while also creating a differentiated guest experience in stores and online. The digital business, including online shopping, that Laura spearheaded engendered new profit and revenue streams which were instrumental to Giant Eagle’s delivery of superior results through the pandemic. Laura also developed the GetGo and Market District businesses, which have been and will continue to be key growth drivers for Giant Eagle. The company benefitted greatly from Laura’s strong industry relationships and the respect she garnered from peers and competitors in our space.

Prior to spending 11 years as CEO, Laura previously held senior roles in strategy, marketing, and new formats at the company. The company wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.

Giant Eagle is excited to bring additional value to its Guests and neighborhoods. This will come in the form of delivering strong everyday value, a reimagined and enhanced myPerks loyalty program, and a differentiated shopping experience to grow market share across its retail formats. This period of growth will be guided by the leadership of Giant Eagle’s newly appointed interim CEO Bill Artman, who has been with the company in various positions for 38 years, most recently as President of Supermarkets.

The recent relaunch of the weekly circular with market-leading price points, expansion of the Market District and GetGo formats, and introduction of price lock on a wide variety of more than 800 popular seasonal essentials across the supermarket and a selection of popular items at GetGo are showing early signs of success, which the company is positioned to build on in its new fiscal year.
