Westinghouse Welcomes Canadian Suppliers to Symposium for Global Advanced Reactor Fleet

Program Highlights Supply Chain Opportunities for AP1000® Reactor, AP300™ SMR and eVinci™ Microreactor

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Westinghouse Electric Company today welcomed 95 vendors to a Canadian Supplier Symposium. The day-long event provided a forum to engage with current and potential suppliers for Westinghouse’s global new build projects.

Westinghouse has worked closely with Canadian suppliers on components for its advanced, proven AP1000 reactor, the only operating Generation III+ reactor with fully passive safety systems, modular construction design and the smallest footprint per MWe on the market. Five AP1000 reactors are operating around the world with seven more under construction.

The symposium provided an overview for suppliers of the three Westinghouse reactors that are either deployed now (the AP1000 reactor) or will be in the years ahead, including:

  • The AP300 small modular reactor (SMR), which Westinghouse launched in May. A 300-MWe single-loop pressurized water reactor, the AP300 SMR is based on the proven, licensed AP1000 technology and is the only SMR modeled on an Nth-of-a-kind operating reactor.
  • The eVinci Microreactor builds on decades of Westinghouse innovation to bring carbon-free, safe and scalable energy wherever it is needed for a variety of applications, including electricity and heating for remote communities, universities, mining operations, industrial centers, data centers, and soon the lunar surface and beyond.

“Westinghouse has a long history of working with established and emerging supply chains around the world,” said Eddie Saab, President for Westinghouse Canada. “Engaging and leveraging Canada’s robust supply chain is key to that strategy and we are thrilled with the enthusiasm we’re seeing for today’s event as well as the opportunity to help build Canada’s, and the world’s, nuclear energy future.”

Westinghouse organized the event with support from the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries and welcomed opening remarks from the Canadian Nuclear Association.
