1VALET Granted Significant Patents for Package Scanning Technology

The patents provide the smart building platform provider with valuable exclusive patent rights in Canada and the United States for scanning technology used in building intercom systems.

OTTAWA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading smart building platform provider 1VALET announced today that it has been granted patents by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the scanning-based courier access technology used in their proprietary building intercom system.

The CIPO has granted 1VALET patent number 3,090,269 entitled “Method and system for access to a secured building.” The Canadian patent was issued on July 20th, 2021, with an original priority filing date of May 24th, 2019. The patent broadly describes the barcode scanning technology utilized in their Canadian-made intercom system to facilitate package courier entry into 1VALET-powered apartment buildings and condominiums.

1VALET was granted US patent (No. 11,450,194) by the USPTO for the same technology on September 20th, 2022, after filing the patent application in early spring 2021.

1VALET has developed innovative technology in response to evolving consumer purchasing habits, leading to higher volumes of package deliveries to multi-family buildings. Previously, package courier services would experience challenges accessing buildings without a concierge or front desk attendant. The absence of a secure access procedure dedicated to package couriers resulted in unsuccessful deliveries and costly returned packages.

1VALET’s Package Scanning technology eliminates this very significant pain point by allowing couriers to securely access multi-family buildings simply by scanning a package. Using the company’s Canadian-built building intercom system, couriers scan the barcode of an incoming package. The technology instantly verifies the package with the company’s numerous courier partners, and once verified unlocks the door for the courier to enter. When coupled with 1VALET’s Package Room Program or package locker integrations, the company is able to offer multi-family developers and asset managers an end-to-end package management solution that ensures their residents do not miss another delivery.

"We’re extremely excited and grateful that the CIPO and USPTO have recognized how unique this technology is and issued these patents,” said 1VALET VP of Business Development Adrian Wang. “Receiving and processing a high volume of package deliveries has become one of the biggest challenges for our markets. To exclusively own a solution that provides so much value to our customers is extremely rewarding, and these patents just further strengthen the differentiation of 1VALET from its competitors.
