Visit Vallejo Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week

VALLEJO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Visit Vallejo will host their 30^th Annual Tourism Luncheon & Board of Directors Installation on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom lakeside by Lake Chabot.

Celebrating National Tourism Week, this luncheon is held at the beginning of travel season to remind Vallejo and other area communities about the economic benefits of the travel and tourism industry and to install the non-profit organization’s new Officers and Directors.

Visit Vallejo’s special guest speaker at this year’s event is Kent Fortner, the founder/owner of the Mare Island Brewing Co. and President of the Mare Island Historic Park Foundation (MIHPF), the non-profit organization stewarding the history of Mare Island since its closure in 1996.

Titled: The past, present and future of Mare Island history, Kent will talk about Mare Island’s tumultuous but rich past, current developments beyond just the P-word (Potential) and the Foundation’s efforts to complete the permanent exhibit of the Sail on the historic waterfront on Mare Island.

At their April 25 meeting, the Vallejo City Council issued a proclamation designating May as Tourism month in Vallejo. The rest of the nation will be marking the occasion as well during National Tourism Week, May 7-13.

Browne added, “More travel means more jobs (Tourism is Vallejo’s #2 industry) and needed revenues for a healthier Vallejo.”
