Windstream again rated as a top ESG performer by Morningstar Sustainalytics

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Windstream, a privately held communications and software company, has been recognized as a Morningstar Sustainalytics ESG Industry Top Rated company and a Regional Top Rated company in 2023. This is the second consecutive year that Windstream has been recognized in the telecommunications services industry and in the region of the United States and Canada by Morningstar Sustainalytics, a leading global ESG (environmental, social and governance) research and ratings firm.

Windstream ranked fourth out of 224 companies on the telecommunications industry list as of Jan. 31. It was the only U.S. telecom to make the Top Rated list.

Windstream received an ESG Risk Rating score of 13.4 from Morningstar Sustainalytics as of December 2022. As part of that, Windstream’s Risk Management score, which assesses the robustness of companies’ ESG programs, improved to 73.7. The company remains in the “Low Risk” category of experiencing material financial impacts from ESG factors.

Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Ratings measure a company’s exposure to industry-specific material ESG risks and how well a company is managing those risks. This two-dimensional way of measuring ESG risk combines the concepts of management and exposure to arrive at an assessment of ESG risk, i.e., a total unmanaged ESG risk score or the ESG Risk Rating, that is comparable across all industries. Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Ratings provide a quantitative measure of unmanaged ESG risk and distinguish between five levels of risk: negligible, low, medium, high and severe.
