University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital First in Midwest to Use EvoEndo® System for Pediatric Endoscopy

—World's First Single-Use Scope for Unsedated Pediatric Endoscopy—

CLEVELAND--()--University Hospitals (UH) Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, a full-service children’s hospital and pediatric academic medical center in Northeast Ohio, is the first care center in the Midwest to use the EvoEndo® Single-Use System to perform an unsedated transnasal endoscopy (TNE). The EvoEndo® System may provide an option for patients five and older to undergo a transnasal esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) exam without anesthesia or sedation.

“As an early adopter of advanced technologies, we are able to offer patients cutting-edge care that isn’t otherwise available in our region,” said Ramy Sabe, MD, Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and Co-director, Pediatric Aerodigestive Clinic at UH Rainbow. “Moreover, the EvoEndo® System’s smaller scope size and larger biopsy channel, coupled with a sterile single-use device, can help us save time, resources, and cost.”

The EvoEndo® Model LE Gastroscope is intended for the visualization of the upper digestive tract in adults and pediatric patients, specifically for the observation, diagnosis, and endoscopic treatment of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenal bulb in patients over the age of five. The gastroscope is a sterile, single-use device and can be inserted orally or transnasally. The EvoEndo® Controller is intended for use with an EvoEndo® Endoscope for endoscopic diagnosis, treatment, and video observation. US: Rx only. For use by trained physicians only.

“We know that maintaining regular daily routines is important for children and their parents,” added Dr. Sabe. “Without general anesthesia or sedation, patients can return to school, work, or other activities on the same day as their unsedated transnasal endoscopy procedure.”

Tracey Demers, the parent of a patient who recently underwent his first unsedated transnasal EGD with the EvoEndo system noted “in the past, sedated endoscopy required my child to take a day off school, and then we would typically wait in line between a lot of other surgeries. Moreover, I then had to wait for them to wake up from the anesthesia. But with this new option [for unsedated EGD] we're out of here in a half an hour. It is a lot easier.”
