Galvanize Climate Solutions Announces New Senior, Analyst Hires

A London-based team will join the growing climate solutions platform

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Galvanize Climate Solutions (“Galvanize”), the mission-driven investment platform, today announced three new senior hires and three new analysts for its team.

Seth Kirkham comes to Galvanize from DSAM Partners, a London-based $2 billion long-short fund focused on EU and US equities, where he was co-Portfolio Manager. Kirkham will lead the London-based Galvanize equities team.

Philip Goldsmith and Asad Rahman are also joining the growing team. Goldsmith also comes to Galvanize from DSAM Partners, while Rahman was previously at TOMS Capital, a New York-based hedge fund.

Kirkham, Goldsmith, and Rahman have 70 years of experience in financial markets as a team. Kirkham and Goldsmith have been working together for six years and have been on the buy side for 23 and 20 years, respectively. Rahman has worked in financial markets for the past 18 years, investing across sectors and geographies, and working closely with management teams and boards at various companies in the US, EU, and Asia.

“We’re thrilled to have Seth, Philip, and Asad joining the Galvanize team,” said Katie Hall, Co-Executive Chair of Galvanize. “Their vast global financial expertise will help our efforts to build out Galvanize as the partner of choice for companies integral to our transition.”

At DSAM, Kirkham and Goldsmith served as Partners and Co-Heads of Research. Previously, Kirkham was a founding partner of ECAP (Eisenstat Capital Partners) as a senior analyst, another long-short equity fund with peak AUM of $2 billion. Prior to DSAM, the pair also worked as senior analysts at Caxton. Before Caxton, Kirkham was a VP in equity research at Goldman Sachs in London covering the Telecommunications sector. Rahman served as a managing director at TOMS, a co-founder and managing partner at Akaris Global Partners, as well as a partner at Mason Capital.

“When we first heard Seth and Philip’s vision, we immediately realized how well it fit with the ecosystem we’re developing at Galvanize,” said Tom Steyer, Co-Executive Chair of Galvanize. “With Asad rounding out our senior team with extensive investment and shareholder experience, the expertise and creativity of all three investors will help us grow.”

Between equity markets rewarding companies for climate-aligned behavior and importantly, for deploying capital towards the opportunities created by the disruption of the transition, a material business opportunity has emerged for our portfolio companies,” said Seth Kirkham. “Additionally, board rooms across the globe are debating their climate alignment now – opening the door for us to engage, influence, and accelerate this transition.”

Joining an aligned firm investing across the capital structure at various points across the lifecycle of companies has many advantages, starting with the ability to share information across the firm,” said Philip Goldsmith. “From the science team producing unique insights into transition pathways to the ability to share information with the other strategies, working at an aligned firm opens up incredible opportunities for collaboration and creativity.”

In addition, Jonathan Hanks, Federica Sallorenzo, and Max Yoward join Galvanize as equity analysts.

Hanks has seven years of experience in financial markets on the sell side, previously serving as a vice president covering industrials at Goldman Sachs. He has also worked in the UK Prime Minister's office and for the UK's Chief Scientific Advisor, focusing on science and technology policy and net-zero transitions.

Sallorenzo has seven years of experience and more than three years of experience on the buy side. Before joining Galvanize, she worked as a senior equity analyst at Builders Union, an equity long-short fund based in London where she was head of brands and e-commerce coverage. Sallorenzo also spent four years in the mergers and acquisitions team of Goldman Sachs.

Yoward has seven years of experience and two years of experience on the buy side. He previously served as an equity analyst at DSAM Partners, supporting coverage across the industrial and consumer sectors. He also spent five years on the sell side as an equity research analyst at Evercore ISI.

“This entire team has a broad, diverse background in global finance,” said Asad Rahman. “With decades of extensive investment work on both the buy and sell sides – and deep shareholder experience – we have a team built to identify and engage climate smart investments.”
