Bioscience Association Manitoba Celebrates Global Biotech Week 2022

WINNIPEG, Manitoba--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today marks the beginning of Global Biotech Week which aims to increase awareness of Manitoba’s $10.4 billion biotech industry, its global potential, policymakers, influencers, and the public.

Each year, biotech leaders, researchers, and industry stakeholders in Manitoba join in highlighting the success stories and promoting the various career pathways in bioscience.

"Manitoba has a strong and vibrant bioscience economy with more than 700 companies and organizations contributing more than $8.3 billion to Manitoba's GDP. The sector is a high value-added industry in our province and employs more than 16,000 skilled workers. It’s important to raise awareness of the many highly skilled, high paying careers available.”, said Kim Kline, President of the Bioscience Association Manitoba. “And once again in 2021, medicaments, which includes pharmaceuticals, vaccines, antibiotics for human and animal use, and vitamins, was the number one export for Manitoba, at $2.2 billion!"

The Province of Manitoba has proclaimed September 26 to October 2, 2022, as Biotechnology Week in Manitoba.

BAM's events for Global Biotech week include academic field trips for Grade 9-12 students to biotech facilities in the province to learn more about science through hands-on activities; Science in the City networking event at the University of Winnipeg; and the Launch of the Sustainable Packaging Roadmap report with a panel discussion.
