Duality Advances Homomorphic Encryption Landscape

Intel Amongst Renown Cryptographer Community Supporting Revolutionary New OpenFHE Library

HOBOKEN, N.J.--()--Duality Technologies, the leader in privacy preserving data collaboration today announced the launch of their highly advanced open-source fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) library in cooperation with a who’s who in cryptography. Intel, Samsung, University of California - San Diego, and MIT join Duality in bringing to market this significant milestone in FHE.

“This project is a significant technological achievement brought about by the collaboration of remarkable leaders in cryptography. I am honored to lead an initiative that enables organizations to accelerate their adoption of FHE and advance their data computation efforts,” stated Yuriy Polyakov, head of cryptography and principal scientist at Duality.

FHE is a powerful cryptographic primitive that enables performing computations over encrypted data without having to decrypt any data or share access to any secret keys. OpenFHE is a next-generation open-source FHE software library that allows organizations looking to swiftly accelerate their adoption of Privacy Enhanced Technologies (PETs) to gain privacy-protected collaboration on sensitive data. OpenFHE is a springboard from the best-of-breed predecessor PALISADE, and other projects HElib, and HEAAN. This new library provides post-quantum security protections against quantum computing attacks, and leverages years of financial support from multiple DARPA programs in the area of PETs. This new library supports a raft of advanced FHE features, including bootstrapping and scheme switching, multiple hardware acceleration backends using a standard Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), as well as integrated encrypted computing capabilities in their applications using transpilers and compilers that can build FHE-enabled applications written using common programming languages.

"There are several FHE libraries out there, but they suffer from a usability dilemma," Professor Vinod Vaikuntanathan, co-founder and chief cryptographer at Duality Technologies, said. "FHE open source libraries all work on different platforms, implement different features, and have different APIs."

Like its predecessor PALISADE, OpenFHE was built to solve big business data problems associated with conducting computations on encrypted data readily without a secret key. In addition, for those who are looking to adopt FHE without the cryptology learning curve, they can now easily integrate their existing and new applications with OpenFHE using transpilers and compilers that are FHE-enabled. Having the ability to leverage years of expertise on-the-fly within an automated framework delivers the crypto agility most organizations are looking for with encrypted data projects. Duality’s own secure data collaboration platform leverages OpenFHE and delivers the most robust privacy preserving data collaboration experience.

Vaikuntanathan continued, "To move FHE to the next stage, it is critical to have a unified API with a programmer-friendly and user-friendly interface. OpenFHE has all of that, as well as a team behind it with considerable intellectual firepower."
