CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Holzer Health System has implemented PeraHealth’s Rothman Index (RI) TREND and Rothman Index (RI) MOBILE at Holzer Gallipolis Hospital (Gallipolis, OH) and Holzer Medical Center – Jackson (Jackson, OH) to help recognize patient deterioration faster and decrease length of stay. These efforts further Holzer’s Mission Statement of: Friendly Visits, Excellent Care, Every Patient, Every Time.
The RI algorithm automatically derives one simple score from electronic medical record data to create a picture of any patient’s condition over time. Because the data reflects real-time status of multiple body systems, it captures subtle changes in patient condition – often hours or days earlier than existing vitals-based algorithms like the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS).
RI TREND provides clinicians with a visual dashboard of the patient’s condition, and it is supporting Holzer clinicians with communication during shift changes and handoffs. RI MOBILE enables on-the-go clinicians to identify at-risk patients earlier for prioritized rounding and care delivery and to notify the clinical response team through a push notification. For an efficient implementation, Holzer integrated RI MOBILE into its existing mobile communication platform.
“The RI lets me see nursing documentation in a way that’s quantified, and I am incorporating RI solutions into our geographic rounding and discharge prioritization processes,” said Thomas Rittinger, MD, Director of Hospital Medicine, OVP Health, the affiliated hospitalist team that serves Holzer.
“We also plan to use the RI for clinical assignment to address patient acuity and to expedite our internal readmission review process, particularly for congestive heart failure and sepsis, to improve behind-the-scenes operational efficiency,” said Susan Rowe, Vice President of Nursing Services, Holzer Health System.
As next steps, Holzer is exploring the potential for a dedicated Rapid Response Team and expanding RI implementation to home health and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs).
“We are delighted that Holzer’s nurses, physicians, other clinicians and administrators have collectively selected PeraHealth’s FDA-cleared and clinically proven technology to advance its proactive surveillance capabilities,” said PeraHealth CEO Joseph Beals.
