Bluebird Network Expands Fiber Network in Waterloo, Iowa and Salina, Kansas

New market expansion driven by growth in both carrier and enterprise sectors, Bluebird Network continues its mission of empowering Midwestern businesses with fiber connectivity

COLUMBIA, Mo.--()--Bluebird Network, a communications infrastructure provider and operator of two data centers and over 10,600 miles of fiber, is excited to announce the fiber expansion in Waterloo, Iowa is live. An additional expansion in Salina, Kansas is underway and will be ready for service by the end of June 2022. Both new network builds have a Point of Presence (PoP) within the communities, bringing Bluebird’s full suite of services to local businesses and organizations in need of high-quality, high-speed connectivity.

Supporting Bluebird’s updated company vision, ‘To have a fiber presence in 80% of communities across our eleven-state footprint with a population greater than 10,000 people,’ this extension adds 11.74 miles of fiber within Waterloo and 13.63 miles of new fiber available in Salina.

Since 2021, Bluebird has aggressively expanded its fiber network footprint and diverse paths throughout the Midwest to diversify routes offering a more efficient and resilient network. In November, the company established a new fiber route across the Mississippi River, and in June Bluebird completed a 300-mile circuit across Missouri, providing network speeds of up to 400 Gbps – four-times that of its previous optical circuit offering.

“Bluebird has no plans to slow down its fiber expansions any time soon. The team is working hard every day to provide customers with fast, secure, and reliable fiber infrastructure to ensure our clients can operate at the highest levels,” said Michael Morey, President and CEO of Bluebird Network. “To foster even more growth and strengthen connectivity for businesses in the Midwest, we have builds underway for additional expansions coming online this summer.”

Bluebird plans to bring fiber to five more communities within Illinois this year, expanding its core services even further. Bluebird’s expansive state-of-the-art fiber footprint allows the company to bring dedicated internet access, Ethernet, colocation, cloud services and more to local businesses and organizations.
