Parentis Foundation Plans Pickleball Tournament to Raise Funds for Intergenerational Tutoring Program

LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. & ORANGE COUNTY, Calif.--()--Parentis Foundation, the non-profit affiliate of Parentis Health, a healthcare company offering continuum of care for seniors, has planned its first annual Pickleball Tournament for July 16, 2022 at the Tennis and Pickleball Club at Newport Beach. The tournament will raise funds for the Foundation’s intergenerational literacy program.

Founded in 2016 by Parentis Health executives, Tarek A. El Nabli, CEO, and Arda Kardjian, President, Parentis Foundation, a 501c3 organization, provides programs that encourage older adults to stay active in the community by tutoring elementary school children. The foundation’s flagship program is the AARP Foundation Experience Corps of Orange County. The Parentis Foundation recruits, trains and pairs volunteer tutors ages 50+, with struggling readers of local elementary schools. For the upcoming 2022-23 school year, Parentis Foundation plans to recruit and train 145+ older adult volunteers to provide reading and mentoring programs to over 260 at-risk readers, delivering 10,400 1:1 tutoring sessions by the end of next school year.

“By pairing 1st-5th grade children with highly trained volunteer tutors, we significantly improve the literacy skills of children at risk of not reading fluently, while simultaneously providing meaningful opportunities for older adults who serve as their mentors,” says Janice Frechette-Artinger, the executive director of the Foundation.

The tournament on July 16th will start with a novice clinic at 2:30 p.m. and competition will run from 4-7 p.m. Pacific Time. Participants will compete in one of three divisions: novice, intermediate, or intermediate/advanced. Sponsors include Parentis Health as presenting sponsor, as well as Strike Works Solutions, George Straggas Law Firm, Intrepid firm, and Linda and Arthur Greenberg, among others. Parentis Health started out in 2003 with several residential care facilities and continuously expanded its services, adding home health and hospice divisions in 2014, along with home care and non-emergency medical transportation. With its recent addition of Pop-in Care, it now provides a full continuum of care from one hour “pop-in” homecare visits to home health, residential, and hospice care.
