Tosaf Completes Latest Capital Investments in Bessemer City, N.C. Facility

Company increases capacity to meet growing demand for high-quality additives, compounds and color masterbatches for plastics industry

BESSEMER CITY, N.C.--()--Tosaf, Inc., a leading global developer and manufacturer of additives, compounds, and color and white masterbatches for the plastics industry, today announced the completion of additional capital investments in its Bessemer City, N.C. plant. The latest commitment of $2 million for a silo system and additional extruders brings the company’s total investment in the facility to more than $20 million.

The silos were installed to take advantage of a rail spur that serves the plant. Built in 2016, the facility was designed to accommodate the silo system retrofit, a major part of the enhancements that advance its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

“We now have the needed infrastructure to receive raw materials via rail, which reduces labor and packaging required in our manufacturing processes,” said Tosaf General Manager Chai Tsadaka. “The silos and enhanced production capabilities allow us to better meet short lead times for our rapidly growing customer base. Unlike others, we provide a seven working day or less production order response time.”

Tosaf’s North American 2021 sales surged 30% above 2020. A large portion of that growth is attributable to new customers who represent 28% of active buyers.

“Globally, we provide solutions for hundreds of manufacturers in all types of industries that produce a variety of flexible and rigid plastic products,” Tsadaka added. “About 20% to 30% of products from our Bessemer City plant are colors and additives for the food industry; plastics we see every day such as flexible packaging, film wrappings and the like.”

Seventy-five percent of the company’s total product portfolio is manufactured to customers’ exacting specifications and needs. For custom colors, the number rises to more than 90%. The plant also supplies masterbatch products for manufacturing rigid plastic pipes, building and construction materials, agricultural supplies, supply-chain commodities (such as crates and skids used to move goods in and out of warehouses and stores), and much more.

While the majority of inputs in Tosaf’s manufacturing process must be prime material because of customization requirements, the company is working toward a circular economy. It is increasing reuse of materials that were once destined for landfills. Also, it is implementing programs to recycle as much plant waste as possible and partnering with recycling companies to repurpose other products. The company’s goal is to eventually achieve zero waste-to-landfill operations.
