Ob Hospitalist Group Broadens Clinical Focus by Creating New Chief Clinical Officer Role

GREENVILLE, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG), the nation’s largest and only dedicated provider of customized obstetric (OB) hospitalist programs, has announced a deeper investment in its clinicians and clinical innovation with the addition of a newly established Chief Clinical Officer role, to be held by Dr. Amy VanBlaricom.

In her new role, Dr. VanBlaricom will lead OBHG’s clinician engagement and clinical operations efforts. She will collaborate closely with OBHG’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mark Simon, who will focus on clinical innovations and enhancements to OBHG’s care model, including risk management tools and data to support maternal care outcome improvements. Dr. VanBlaricom will also work closely with our operations team leadership in supporting our hospital customers.

“I am thrilled Dr. VanBlaricom will serve as OBHG’s first Chief Clinical Officer,” said Lenny Castiglione, OBHG CEO. “She is an experienced clinical leader, committed to supporting our clinician team and improving the quality and availability of obstetric care to expectant mothers. We look forward to her leadership in consistently focusing on our clinicians and the patients that we are so fortunate to serve.”

OBHG’s new coordinated medical and clinical leadership structure will bring a deeper focus on supporting OBHG’s clinicians while continuing to evolve OBHG’s women’s health solutions in addressing our nation’s maternity care challenges. “This is an exciting time for OBHG. Not only are we deepening our commitment to the clinicians that provide care, but we are also intensifying our focus on clinical innovation,” said Castiglione.

Dr. VanBlaricom joined OBHG’s clinical leadership team in 2016 as a Medical Director of Operations and was promoted to Vice President, Clinical Operations in 2020 before her recent appointment to Chief Clinical Officer. She previously spent nine years teaching at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she was medical director of the gynecology clinic as well as associate residency program director. For 10 years, she served on the Surgical Scholars faculty for APGO, before establishing a private OB/GYN practice in 2007 and serving as OB/GYN department chair and director of simulation at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. In 2014, she transitioned into hospitalist work with OBHG. Outside of OBHG, she is a member of the Maternal Mortality Review Panel for the State of Washington, sits on the Management Committee for the Obstetrical Care Outcomes Assessment Program for the Foundation for Health Care Quality in the State of Washington, serves as a member of the Washington State Hospital Association Safe Deliveries Roadmap steering committee, and serves as the Regional Medical Director for Obstetrics for CHI/Common Spirit. She also sits on the board of directors for the Society of OBGYN Hospitalists (SOGH), the editorial board for the Journal of OBGYN Hospital Medicine and co-leads the research committee for SOGH.
