FCW Selects MITRE’s Kerry Buckley as a 2022 Federal 100 Honoree

Buckley is recognized for her leadership in building cooperation between industry and government in the space domain

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FCW named MITRE Vice President of Air & Space Forces Kerry Buckley, Ph.D., a 2022 Federal 100 award winner for her leadership in building a foundation for public and private cooperation in the space domain. Buckley and her team at MITRE created a technical roadmap to integrate a surface-to-space architecture to ensure the safety of increasingly crowded airspace and a simulation environment that government and industry stakeholders use to model cross-agency and cross-sector operational collaboration.

The Federal 100 awards recognize leaders from private industry, academia, and government who show how government can better leverage technology to serve its citizens. As a convener of federal, private, and academic stakeholders in the space domain, MITRE is supporting U.S. leadership as the trillion-dollar space economy rapidly grows, so that government can best support the scientific and business ventures of its citizens while advancing America’s national security.

“Kerry is an expert in helping people and organizations collaborate in a whole-of-nation approach to the world’s space challenges,” said Keoki Jackson, senior vice president and general manager, MITRE National Security. “She brings a systems-thinking process to information sharing, enterprise IT, and collaboration initiatives with agencies across the U.S. government. I know I join the rest of my colleagues at MITRE and in the greater space domain in congratulating Kerry on this award and thanking her for her vision and leadership.”

The Department of Defense has adopted the MITRE architecture to support interagency discussions and decisions regarding surface-to-space integration. The architecture also has been endorsed or validated by key space stakeholders in industry and government including NASA Goddard, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Space ISAC, and the 18th Space Control Squadron.

In addition to her Air and Space Forces portfolio, Buckley leads MITRE’s Social Justice Platform, which applies data analysis, modeling, equity-centered design, and change management capabilities to advance equity in programs and communities. The platform helps organizations gain insight into complex social issues and systemic inequities, create solutions that disrupt those systems, and coordinate their investments for lasting impact.

FCW will honor the Federal 100 award winners at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 12. For 33 years, the awards have celebrated government, industry, and academic leaders who are transforming government and its ability to deliver on critical missions.
