Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio Completes Transaction to Acquire Medicaid Contract from Paramount Advantage

COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio today announced the completion of the transaction to acquire the Medicaid contract held by Paramount Advantage that currently serves 257,000 Ohio Medicaid enrollees.

“We’re pleased to complete the transaction with Paramount Advantage as we work to serve more Medicaid individuals with personalized, high-quality healthcare they’ve come to know and trust,” said Greg LaManna, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicaid Plan President in Ohio. “We look forward to continuing our path of furthering Ohio’s next generation of managed care as we advance health for our communities and our members.”

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been serving the whole-health needs of Ohioans for more than 81 years through innovative, high-quality healthcare and support services, and will begin serving individuals in Medicaid, effective immediately.

The completed transaction comes ahead of the July 1, 2022, implementation of Ohio’s new Medicaid managed care program, in which Anthem was awarded a statewide contract to serve Medicaid beneficiaries across all populations as a new entrant to the program. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will work in coordination with Paramount Advantage to administer benefits to existing members through June 30, 2022. Beginning July 1, Anthem will provide all aspects of operations related to the new Ohio Medicaid managed care program for current members of Paramount Advantage who chose to remain with their plan as well as members who select or are assigned to Anthem through the statewide member transition period.
