UCLA Extension Announces New Assistant Dean of International Programs

LOS ANGELES--()--UCLA Extension is pleased to announce that Susannah (Susie) Morris has been appointed as Assistant Dean of International Programs, effective January 3, 2022. Morris is an accomplished international administrator with a history of developing strategies for strengthening and integrating experiential, intercultural, and immersive programming.

As a member of the leadership team at the division of Continuing Education and UCLA Extension, Morris will oversee the development of a comprehensive strategy for international programs. The international area includes the American Language Center (ESL), study abroad, international enrollment and services, Student Exchange Visitor Program/DHS, agency management, university/institution collaborations, student recruitment, curriculum development, and practical training/career services.

“Susannah Morris is a global educator with a successful record of developing novel student engagement and building international partnerships. Her expertise and oversight will touch more than 100 professional certificates,” said Eric A. Bullard, Dean, Continuing Education and UCLA Extension. “Morris’ strategic leadership will guide all international planning and initiatives for the division.”

UCLA Extension has an extensive global footprint of current students and alumni, as one of the oldest and largest professional continuing education providers in the United States. The division serves approximately 50,000 unique students per year and according to IIE Open Doors, UCLA is in the top ten U.S universities enrolling international students.

Morris is the past Director of Global Education and Initiatives and Study Abroad and Away programs at San Jose State University. During her time at San Jose State University, she established a study abroad and away program, and helped navigate the pandemic by developing an innovative virtual program that served 400 students during the academic year. Morris has also held international administrator roles at Susquehanna University, Grand View University, and Iowa State University and teaching roles at the Prince of Songkla University, Thammasat University, Silpakorn University, and Des Moines Area Community College.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Russian from the University of Iowa, a Master of Arts in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute and has a Certificate in English Language Training for Adults from BKC International House. She is proficient in six languages: Russian, Spanish, Thai, Czech, Polish, and French and has extensive international experience having lived in Russia, Thailand, Spain, and Iceland.

Her memberships include: NAFSA, Diversity Abroad, Forum on Education Abroad, TESOL, Overseas Security Advisory Council – Academica Sector Committee and Women in Security, IIE.
