Professionals look for better opportunities in tight labor market
Open enrollment division cites top programs
Spring Quarter Courses Begin on March 28
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UCLA Extension, a national leader in continuing education, begins Spring Quarter instruction on March 28, as professionals look for better career opportunities in a tight labor market with a look toward a post-pandemic economy.
In today’s economy, professionals look to capitalize on in-demand jobs in accounting and finance, digital technology, entertainment, health sciences, and sustainability. UCLA Extension programs align with the job growth outlook by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Employment Projections, 2020-30. The trend of employees leaving their jobs has reached an all-time high of 4.4 million people and this data suggests workers are using supply/demand leverage in the labor market to get better salaries and benefits.
"The current trend reflects interest and momentum by adult learners to upskill, change, or pursue subjects based on new interests or purpose," said Eric A. Bullard, Dean of Continuing Education and UCLA Extension. "Our division has always been a pathway for professionals when there are economic shifts or disruptions. The information economy rewards knowledge and analytical skills developed continuously. Our expert instructors focus on practical and applied knowledge and real-world content. With current workforce trends leaning toward remote and hybrid options, now is the time to invest in yourself and your future to stand out in a crowded job market.”
With more than 160+ professional certificates and specializations, industry conferences, and credit and non-credit courses, UCLA Extension identifies its top five programs by enrollment: Pre-medical and general science studies, paralegal studies, architecture & interior design, college counseling, and digital technology.
Over this academic year, the continuing education division has also launched new initiatives with UCLAxOnline, fully online certificates offering an immersive learning experience; and UCLAxCareerBridge which supports certificates in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling, Data Science, and Early Childhood Education – Associate Teacher (Ofrecido en español). Recently, UCLA Extension announced a new nine -course certificate Behavioral Health Support Specialist Training Certificate (BHSS) to train and upskill paraprofessionals who serve the needs of the LGBTQ+ population of greater Los Angeles with a stipend valued at $5,000 per student.
UCLA Extension Spring Quarter has a portfolio of more than 1,000 courses in accessible and flexible formats - in-person, online, remote, and hybrid. Classes begin on March 28, 2022.
