Nucleus Research 2022 Value Matrix Shows High Demand for CPM Solutions as Business Disruptions Continue

Reflecting on notable business interruptions over the past year, Nucleus Research’s newest analysis examines the effects of the pandemic on supply disruptions, fluctuating demand, and labor shortages as businesses utilize CPM technology to better contend with uncertainty and rapidly shifting market conditions

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Despite some reports that 2022 could bring the end of the COVID pandemic and a return to “normal” life, organizations are still contending with complex regulatory requirements, fluctuating demand, labor shortages and supply disruptions. As such, demand for corporate performance management (CPM) solutions remains high, according to the CPM Technology Value Matrix 2022 from Nucleus Research, leading provider of ROI-based analysis of technology services and solutions.

Historically, businesses have deployed CPM solutions to connect and leverage the data of disparate departments to generate accurate financial forecasts and budgets. But now, businesses must plan and execute on shorter time horizons than ever before – leading to further leveraging their CPM solutions to address the planning activities of their HR, marketing, sales, and operations departments. Businesses must also factor in their future strategies, growth outlook, and accounting requirements when selecting a CPM solution.

Nucleus Research’s annual CPM Technology assessment offers a breakdown of industry leaders, experts, facilitators, and core providers:

  • Leaders: Board International, OneStream Software, Planful, Prophix, Wolters Kluwer CCH Tagetik, and Vena Solutions.
  • Experts: Anaplan, Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), SAP, and Workday.
  • Facilitators: insightsoftware, Sage Intacct, UNIT4 FP&A.
  • Core providers: Centage, Infor d/EPM, Jedox and Syntellis.

Per Nucleus, quarterly sales and operational plans that were sufficient in the past are no longer the norm; organizations are now implementing weekly strategies, sometimes down to the day. CPM technology enables this business agility, encompassing both Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and Financial Consolidation and Close (FCC) functionality. These days, organizations prioritize integrated business planning (IBP) initiatives to generate plans that reflect current business operations and their ability to execute. To create accurate budgets and financial forecasts, organizations need information from all aspects of their business, such as marketing, sales, HR, IT, operations, and supply chain. With a focus on IBP, many CPM vendors have extended FP&A functionality into supply chain planning or sales and operational planning (S&OP) territory.

“Businesses still contend with complex regulations, supply disruptions, labor shortages, and fluctuating demand,” said Research Manager Isaac Gould. “To adapt to current market forces, businesses must impart greater agility and flexibility in their planning processes. Modern CPM technology enables organizations to leverage the data and plan across multiple business units and departments, ensuring HR, Operations, Finance, Marketing, IT and Supply Chain activities are aligned on a monthly, weekly, and even daily basis.”

To create the 2022 CPM Technology Value Matrix, Nucleus Research analysts evaluated CPM vendors based on their usability and functionality, as well as the value that customers realized from each product’s capabilities. The research is intended to serve as a snapshot of the CPM technology market, help inform customers about how vendors are delivering value, and take stock of what can be expected in the future based on present investments.
