Freshfields Launches New Recruitment Initiative to Attract and Hire Experienced Lawyers Seeking Re-entry to Profession

The Returners program provides a pathway for former practicing lawyers who have been out of the profession to relaunch their careers, while increasing candidate flow and reflecting the firm’s emphasis on diversity and inclusiveness

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP has launched a new recruitment initiative designed to attract and hire experienced lawyers who have been out of the profession for a period of at least two years. The Returners program provides a unique pathway for former practicing lawyers to relaunch their careers, offering structure and support to participants while increasing candidate flow and reflecting the firm’s emphasis on diversity and inclusiveness.

“Our clients demand excellence, and this program allows us to serve them better by accessing a group of highly qualified lawyers outside of the traditional law school recruiting model. The Returners program provides a channel for us to reach talented individuals who have stepped away from the profession, for reasons such as family caregiving,” said Freshfields’ US managing partner Sarah Solum. “This program is one example of our many diversity and inclusion initiatives, and we believe it is a win for clients, candidates and Freshfields.”

Initially offered in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, the program gives participants the opportunity to work with high-profile clients and collaborate with cross-border, cross-functional teams, while supporting them with a full range of mentorship, training and development resources. These include: technical training tailored to individual, role-specific and client requirements; a dedicated mentor; and access to senior management and the firm’s extensive support network and community, including other returning professionals who understand the challenges of career re-entry.

Participants also benefit from working at a truly international firm with a world-class heritage, market-leading practices (Freshfields is ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global across the six areas of antitrust, corporate/M&A, litigation, international arbitration, tax and public international law) and an inclusive environment with flexible work arrangements and competitive pay and benefits.
