California Board of Education Adopts Carnegie Learning World Languages Resources

Carnegie Learning’s solutions for Spanish, Spanish for Spanish speakers, and French are selected as high-quality materials to expand opportunities for California students to acquire world languages.

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Carnegie Learning announced today that the California Board of Education approved several of its world languages resources in the 2021 World Languages Instructional Materials Adoption. Adopted classroom resources include ¡Qué chévere! and T'es branché?, blended core curriculum solutions for Spanish and French, respectively. Also adopted is En voz alta: Español para hispanohablantes, the only Spanish language curriculum designed specifically for Spanish-speaking students on California’s list of adopted resources.

Through a rigorous evaluation process, ¡Qué chévere!, T'es branché?, and En voz alta were determined to align with the World Languages Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve.

Carnegie Learning, a leader in blended world languages solutions, provides K-12 language learning solutions for Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Italian.

CEO of Carnegie Learning Barry Malkin states, “We are committed to providing the highest quality, most flexible and relevant resources to educators so they can take student learning in new directions. We appreciate the California Board of Education for their rigorous review that has recognized the quality and standards alignment of our world languages curriculum, and we’re excited to partner with California schools to achieve deeper student learning and improved outcomes.”

Core Curriculum for Spanish and French

¡Qué chévere! and T'es branché? are 4-level programs that support middle and high school students and teachers with a wide range of language-learning resources, including digital tools for listening and speaking, an expansive and constantly updated library of cultural materials, and strategies for easy differentiation that allow teachers to personalize learning for every student. These blended solutions for Spanish and French focus on building not only language skills but also intercultural curiosity and empathy to help all students fall in love with languages and cultures.

En voz alta: Spanish for Spanish Speakers

En voz alta is a 3-level blended program that encourages heritage and native speakers of Spanish to discover and embrace their unique cultural identities while addressing their varied language proficiency through true, integrated differentiation.

Paula Hidalgo, Chief Languages Officer, states, “With a wide range of backgrounds, both culturally and linguistically, it can be difficult for heritage and native Spanish speaking students to find their place. We designed En voz alta to not only develop and foster students’ Spanish language abilities, but also to help students find and celebrate their authentic identity and unique voice that encompasses multiple cultures and multiple languages.”
