VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Social Diversity for Children Foundation (SDC) is proud to announce the 2021 Concord Pacific Once Upon a Shine Gala presented by BakerWest. Tickets to the November 6th event at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver are now selling.
The event will provide an inspirational stage for children of all abilities to share their music, art, talent and stories of empowerment.
“The Once Upon a Shine Gala works towards creating a vision of a larger puzzle that incorporates all members of society, and not just those that fit into an outdated mold,” said SDC Founder and President David Wang. “With the majority of our funding generated from the Gala, the event is a crucial fundraiser towards our ultimate goal to open a Centre to hold our programs in the future.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone tremendously in various ways. The SDC team worked tirelessly to ensure that, despite the dramatic shift in program delivery, children of all disabilities would have ample opportunity to learn, socialize, and keep stimulated during this isolating time.
Throughout the pandemic, SDC has reached a record-breaking number of participants and created new programs. In addition to exhibitions, video productions, and fund-a-need, the Gala will include a unique selection of both auction and raffle items. Every ticket and item purchased directly supports the efforts of the foundation.
SDC holds a mission to support youth to empower other children with disabilities by offering various programs to come together, socialize, make friends, and learn from each other. SDC works to equip youth leaders with the skills and resources to educate their communities about the importance of diversity and discussion. It aims to provide quality social learning programs from all socioeconomic backgrounds in the community.
The SDC currently offers five types of safe, socially-distanced programs including music, art, virtual reality, math, and drama. Overall, we lead 72 programs, involving 720 direct participants and over 4,000 indirect beneficiaries. We’re expecting even more participation and programming needs for the Fall and Winter 2021 semesters.
