The Kyle Pease Foundation Makes Boston Marathon Debut
Nonprofit Hosts Three Push-Assist Teams in the 125th Running of the Iconic Event
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Three push-assist teams from The Kyle Pease Foundation will be participating in the 125th Boston Marathon on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021. The world’s oldest annual marathon has been instrumental in propelling inclusion in endurance sports thanks to the efforts led by Massachusetts natives, Dick and Rick Hoyt, making this a monumental milestone for the organization as it participates for the first time.
A race that has been years in the making, the athletes competing on behalf of The Foundation include Team Lizzie (Kirksey) and Betsy Magato, who first qualified in October 2018; Team Kyle (Pease) and Brent Pease and Team Bentley Grace (Hicks) and Chris Nasser, who both qualified in March 2019.
“It is a dream come true to participate in the Boston Marathon after waiting for more than two years for the event to take place due to the pandemic,” shares Kyle Pease, founder and chief inspirational officer for The Foundation. “This event is synonymous with the Hoyt family, who have been a true inspiration for Brent and me. It is an honor for us to follow in their footsteps, continuing to push for inclusion in sports alongside two other teams representing The Foundation.”
Now in its 10th year, The Kyle Pease Foundation has supported 140 athletes across more than 2,000 finish lines and raised over $4.3M to further its mission to improve the lives of people with disabilities through sports. Its events are made possible through the 600 dedicated volunteers that can be found at every starting line and cheering along the course.
“Having the opportunity to host three teams in the 125th Boston Marathon during our 10th anniversary year is a testament to how far we have come as an organization,” says Brent Pease, executive director of The Kyle Pease Foundation. “It has been a challenging 18 months for everyone, and we’re thrilled to hit the streets of Boston to race. This will be The Foundation’s first in-person, live marathon since March 2020, and we are ready to introduce the crowd to our great organization and athletes.”
