Compass Health Unveils “Andy’s Place” as Official Name of New Permanent Supportive Housing Building on Broadway Campus

EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Compass Health unveiled “Andy’s Place” as the official name of the organization’s new permanent supportive housing building completed during Phase I of the three-phase Broadway Campus Redevelopment project.

With a significant gift from the Martyn Family Foundation, the name Andy’s Place honors Andrew “Andy” Martyn, a member of the Martyn family who struggled with homelessness, drug dependency and bipolar disorder before dying of heart failure in 2016 at the age of 48.

“We are incredibly grateful for the Martyn Family Foundation for this generous gift, which allows Compass Health to provide hope and recovery for individuals who share Andy’s challenges,” said Tom Sebastian, Compass Health president and CEO. “The Martyn family has experienced unthinkable tragedy in losing Andy, but we’re so thankful they are helping us make an impact for other community members and their families.”

Like so many families across the region, for years, the Martyn family supported Andy’s efforts to remain engaged in treatment before his tragic death. Family members believe that Compass Health’s facility, with its housing-first model and integrated approach to providing access to a full spectrum of services for mental health, substance use and other needs, could have made a difference for their son and brother.

“There are thousands of Andys out in the world trying to overcome significant behavioral health needs, so they can not only survive, but thrive,” said Kevin Martyn, Andy’s brother and founder of Genoa Healthcare. “In a permanent supportive housing facility like Andy’s Place, Andy would have had access to exactly what he needed – housing, medication management, access to resources and so much more – which is why it is so instrumental to our communities and why our family is proud to support Compass Health in all its efforts.”

Completed in 2021, Andy’s Place includes 82 new units of housing, coupled with facilities for integrated treatment and supportive services for people with chronic behavioral health challenges. Although a recent addition to the area, the building has already established itself as community catalyst, garnering significant support within the Everett region and beyond.

With a groundswell of partnerships and donations, the facility continues to foster connections between its residents and the community. Lake Stevens First Baptist Church and the Community Resource Network contribute ongoing food donations, Everett Elks Lodge #479 and the EverTrust Foundation contribute move-in kits, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Home Storage Center in Mukilteo contributes food and product donations.

Phase II of the Broadway Campus Redevelopment project is a state-of-the-art facility that supports community-based care for individuals who will benefit from intensive services. When complete, Phase II will help make the Broadway Campus a robust resource as a sophisticated facility for people with intensive behavioral health needs, right next door to the permanent supportive housing that Andy’s Place provides.
