Beacon Health Options Taps Health Plan Veteran as President

Glenn MacFarlane joins as leader of behavioral health services company

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Beacon Health Options announced Glenn MacFarlane as president of Beacon Health Options, leading the management of behavioral health services for one out of six people in the United States.

MacFarlane is a versatile leader with Fortune 100 expertise running Medicaid managed care organizations, operations, procurement and building new ventures. Prior to joining Anthem, Inc., MacFarlane was Aetna Medicaid Northeast Territory Leader and plan president for the New Jersey market. He had previously been president and chief executive officer of Affinity Health Plan, one of the largest managed care plans in the New York metropolitan market.

“From Glenn’s experience working with members, providers, and government and business leaders, he understands that mental health is crucial for whole health,” said Prakash Patel, MD, Anthem executive vice president and president of its Diversified Business Group, which includes Beacon Health Options. “He is the right leader to build on Beacon’s existing expertise, collaborations and partnerships and take us to a new level in innovating healthcare and better serving our members so that they can live their fullest lives.”

“The rapid and unexpected onset of COVID-19 has brought greater awareness to behavioral health as a critically important aspect to improving the lives of the people in our communities,” said MacFarlane. “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of president for an organization that has been an industry leader in addressing the complex behavioral health needs of our communities. As we look to the future, Beacon will continue finding new, flexible approaches and methods to connect members to care in the way they want to receive it.”
