Alter Health Group Taps Strategic New Hire to Advance Data-driven Mental Health Treatment

Leading Orange County, Calif. Provider of Residential and Outpatient Recovery Services Hires Dr. Loren Martin as Chief Science Officer

DANA POINT, Calif.--()--Alter Health Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Loren Martin as chief science officer. Dr. Martin is the lead data scientist in Alter Health Group’s new initiative in mental health research and treatment analysis. While research into treatment for individual mental and behavioral health disorders is constantly advancing, there exists a gap in providers application of this research. There remains a particular need for further analysis of best practices for treating chronic and co-occurring conditions through long-term care. Alter’s position as both a mental health care provider and research institution position it to study this relationship between neuroscience and on-the-ground implementation. Dr. Martin’s research will support a new artificial intelligence model designed to continuously improve patient care and outcomes by leveraging the intelligence shared between cutting-edge psychological research and customized treatment protocols.

"Our goal is to advance the intelligence of data-driven mental health treatment in a way that reinforces rather than replaces the interpersonal component that is essential to healing,” states Dr. Martin, who also holds titles as professor of neuroscience in the clinical psychology department and the director of research for the doctoral program at Azusa Pacific University, as well as the organization’s director of institutional research.

His past research focused on how the intersection of genetics, developmental disorders and social behavior has contributed to science’s understanding of the relationship between the brain and intentional behavior—essentially how hard-wiring interacts with how people choose and what they believe. His unique experience combines neuroscience and the psychology of mental health and predictive data modeling, especially in the area of autism research.

"Alter is gathering perspectives from a broad range of disciplines, many of which are neglected by mental health care providers,” said Dr. Martin. “As a neuroscientist, it's important to me that I'm working alongside specialists in the delivery of personal technology and therapy as well as other experts who think at high levels about the human side of mental health and flourishing."
