Davenport University Named the Safest Campus in Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today Davenport University was named the safest campus in Michigan and among the top safest universities in the country by YourLocalSecurity.com, partner of SafeStreets – an ADT Authorized Provider.

"This recognition is a validation of our hard work to offer students a high-quality education and a safe learning environment," said Dr. Richard J. Pappas, president of Davenport University. "I'd especially like to recognize our student life and public safety teams who ensure our campus and facilities are monitored and protected at all times. They work day-in and day-out to ensure our students are comfortable and safe and are the true champions of this honor."

The study reviewed police and FBI reports of violent, property, hate crimes, and Violence Against Women Act offenses on campuses for public, private, and non-profit institutions with a minimum of 5,000 students offering two- or four-year degrees.

The results found Davenport University as the safest in Michigan.

YourLocalSecurity.com evaluated the safety of a college campus based on a combination of factors, including:

  • Violent crimes per 10,000 people
  • Property crimes per 10,000 people
  • Hate crimes per 10,000 people
  • Number of Violent Against Women Act (VAWA) offenses per 10,000 people

After analyzing those factors, YourLocalSecurity.com created each school's overall crime score.
