MITRE Earns Top Score on 2021 Disability Equality Index®

MCLEAN, Va. & BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MITRE has been recognized as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the Disability Equality Index® (DEI), a comprehensive benchmarking tool that helps companies build a roadmap of measurable, tangible actions that they can take to achieve disability inclusion and equality.

MITRE earned the top possible score of 100, indicating a strong commitment and adherence to the numerous leading disability inclusion practices featured in the DEI. Each company receives a score, on a scale of zero (0) to 100, with those earning 80 and above recognized as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.” The 2021 index, which is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities and Disability:IN, measures key performance indicators, including culture and leadership; enterprise-wide access; employment practices including benefits and recruitment; and community engagement.

“Disability awareness and inclusion are key components of MITRE’s core values, and we are proud to have achieved the top score,” said Kathleen Federico, senior vice president, chief people and corporate strategy officer. “We know the work never stops in cultivating an inclusive environment, and we will continue to discover, create, and lead in creating a workplace where all individuals are able to thrive and prosper.”

Stephanie Turner, vice president, inclusion, diversity, and social innovation, said, “Based on our shared values and cultural attributes, we strive for a sense of belonging by all, which is why we support our people to grow personally and professionally. We are honored to score 100 on the Disability Equality Index, and we are committed to making progress for years to come.”

Employees with disabilities comprise 7 percent of the MITRE workforce. MITRE is also working to make the government a more accessible and inclusive place through innovative technology, such as our Demodocus project to test website accessibility for the U.S. Department of the Treasury and our Accessible Communications for Everyone (ACE) initiative for the Federal Communications Commission.
