BOGOTA, Colombia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kapsch TrafficCom Colombia has just been selected to provide ITS for the tunnels that are part of the project Autopista al Mar 1 (Túneles del Occidente), a huge project which will be executed by the concession Desarrollo Vial al Mar, or Devimar, owned by the international shareholders Strabag (37,5%), Sacyr Concesiones (37,50%) y Concay (25%).
This project will improve the connectivity between the city of Medellín and the west and southwest of the state of Antioquia. It will also bring the state capital closer to the ports of Antioquia's Urabá region.
Throughout the 181 km of the concession, the project includes the construction of 33 km of dual lanes, the rehabilitation of 76 km section of the highway, the construction of 45 bridges, and the construction of the second tube of the tunnel (Túnel de Occidente), of 4.6 km, parallel to the already existing one.
For the new tunnel, Kapsch will be responsible for the supply, installation and commissioning of all the ITS equipment such as control centers in Medellin and Santa Fe, access control, communications and fiber optics, environmental control, among others, as well as the electromechanical equipment such as ventilation, fire protection, etc.. The old equipment in the existing tunnel will be removed and replaced with the same equipment as in the new tunnel.
High technology to ensure security and efficiency
In addition, Kapsch's Dynac solution will be implemented, which brings the latest software technology for tunnel management, and allows full integration of ATMS and SCADA. Dynac is a high-performance integrated suite that will allow monitoring and control of tunnel traffic, safety, and facility management processes. This system has proven efficiency in large projects around the world, and has also been successfully implemented by Kapsch in other projects in Colombia, such as Parques del Rio in Medellin and Accesos Norte in the city of Bogota. Vicente Peralta, Country Manager of Kapsch TrafficCom Colombia, states that "at Kapsch we are glad with this opportunity to bring our solution, that combines reliability and security with the latest software technology, to another important project in Colombia”.
