Baker Tilly Achieves Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Third-Party Assessor Accreditation

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading advisory CPA firm Baker Tilly US, LLP (Baker Tilly) announces its subsidiary Baker Tilly Data Systems’ selection as a Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Third-Party Assessor Organization (C3PAO) by the CMMC Accreditation Body. C3PAOs are the only businesses authorized to conduct CMMC assessments.

“Baker Tilly has a proud history of helping government contractors navigate and meet complex regulatory compliance, audit and other government oversight requirements,” Baker Tilly Partner and Cybersecurity Services Leader Jeff Krull said. “Becoming a C3PAO is a natural complement to our CMMC, cybersecurity, IT risk and government contracting capabilities, and provides another way we can help our clients be more secure while they stay competitive for Department of Defense contracts.”

The CMMC framework is a unified security standard comprised of five certification levels that reflect the maturity and reliability of a company's cybersecurity infrastructure to safeguard sensitive government information on contractors' information systems. With more than 300,000 contractors currently serving in the Defense Industrial Base, the Department of Defense (DOD) is planning to include the CMMC contract clauses in their solicitations. Those clauses require a contractor to assess their current cybersecurity status and be certified to its CMMC level by an independent third-party organization to do business with the DOD.

This C3PAO selection follows the November 2020 naming of Baker Tilly Partner and CMMC Leader Matt Gilbert as one of the first 100 provisional assessors certified to perform assessments. Further, Baker Tilly has two additional individuals undergoing training to become provisional assessors.

All CMMC services are performed by Baker Tilly Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Baker Tilly US, LLP. Baker Tilly Data Systems is a certified CMMC Third-Party Assessor Organization.
