U.S. EPA Veteran Peter Shanaghan Joins Cadmus

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Peter Shanaghan, a 35-year veteran of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Water and a leading authority on the Safe Drinking Water Act, has joined Cadmus as a principal. Mr. Shanaghan will be bringing his thought leadership to new and emerging topics in water and related programs.

Over the course of his distinguished career at EPA, Mr. Shanaghan became one of the agency’s foremost experts on drinking water policy, infrastructure, and security in the United States. Most recently, he served as a Senior Environmental Engineer and Policy Advisor, where he provided expert advice and analysis to senior managers and peers supporting EPA’s national drinking water program. Prior to that, Mr. Shanaghan represented the national drinking water program on the task force developing the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program and served as the senior engineer leading national implementation and oversight of the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), the largest federal safe drinking water infrastructure financial assistance program. During the development of the 1996 Amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Mr. Shanaghan directly assisted in negotiations with congressional staff and developed innovative policy provisions that became major features of SDWA, including water system capacity development; DWSRF; Operator Certification; and variance technologies for small systems. He has twice been recognized with EPA’s highest honor, the Gold Medal for Exceptional Service, as well as the Silver Medal and, on ten occasions, the Bronze Medal.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Peter Shanaghan to Cadmus,” said President and CEO Ian Kline. “Peter’s exceptional work and leadership at EPA directly contributed to making drinking water safer and more accessible for millions of Americans, and his comprehensive expertise in national drinking water policy, science, and infrastructure is unparalleled. I’m excited to be working with Peter and honored that he has chosen to bring the benefit of his knowledge and experience to Cadmus and our clients.”

Since its inception, Cadmus has been at the forefront of helping clients secure clean water for the present and for decades to come. As the major support contractor for the EPA’s Office of Water, Cadmus is proud to have contributed to every major drinking water rule developed since 1983. Learn more here.
