WorldQuant University Granted Accreditation from the Distance Education Accrediting Commission

Accreditation will enable WorldQuant University to expand access to its online and entirely free offerings to more students

NEW ORLEANS--()--WorldQuant University (WQU), a not-for-profit advancing global education in data sciences, today announced it has been granted accreditation from the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), a national accreditor of distance education institutions that is formally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This milestone recognizes WQU’s work to provide a robust platform and offerings focused on increasing access to global education and data science skills for the future. Accreditation will enable WQU to provide its online and entirely free offerings, including an MSc in Financial Engineering and a continuing education Applied Data Science Module, to more candidates, including in the United States.

WQU was built to make high-quality education available to talented individuals around the world by leveraging technology at scale. The nature of workforces is rapidly evolving, as evident in the transition to a global remote working environment over the past year. There is increased demand for high-quality virtual education programs that enable global efforts to upskill and prepare individuals for future jobs. In fact, a recent McKinsey Global Institute report found that 100 million workers across China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States will need to find a new occupation, which may require new, advanced skills, by 2030 in a post-pandemic environment.

“This is a particularly exciting development for WorldQuant University. Gaining accreditation demonstrates that WorldQuant University’s model for advanced virtual education can provide students with an important opportunity to expand their knowledge in ways that help them achieve their potential. There is, and will continue to be, significant demand for programs that prepare students to thrive in the future. We are excited to continue providing this opportunity to talent around the globe,” said Igor Tulchinsky, Founder of WQU.

“When we set out to build WorldQuant University, there weren’t many organizations taking a similar educational approach — rigorous, collaborative, high-quality, designed from the ground up to be delivered entirely online and free. We are proud of what has been achieved to date and the Distance Education Accrediting Commission’s recognition of our work through accreditation. With more than 600 graduates in our MSc in Financial Engineering program around the world already, we look forward to expanding the reach of these impactful offerings to even more students,” said Daphne Kis, CEO of WQU.

Since WQU’s founding more than five years ago, it has had students from over 100 countries around the world, each contributing their own unique life experiences and perspectives to the WQU community. Students are provided with a flexible learning environment and guided by professional faculty to develop the high-level quantitative and data-driven skills in high demand across industries, along with the collaborative professional skills that are required for future work environments.

As part of the DEAC’s accreditation process, WQU participated in a rigorous evaluation covering key areas, including academic quality, curriculum requirements, faculty, student services, ethical business practices, academic support services, learning and research resources, administrative capacity and financial capacity.

DEAC is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1926 that seeks to ensure a high standard of educational quality for the more than two million students who annually study at its accredited institutions.
