Soberlink Remote Alcohol Monitoring Provides Favorable Outcomes for In-Home Substance Use Treatment as Found in 6-Month Study

100% of participants reported substance use decreased and family relationships improved

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A 24-week research study, conducted by the OMNI Institute, demonstrates that Soberlink remote alcohol monitoring positively impacted individuals in treatment for alcohol use with Aware Recovery Care, an organization that provides in-home substance use disorder treatment.

The study collected data related to patient demographics, substance use, medical outcomes, and satisfaction with Soberlink, a remote alcohol monitoring system that combines a professional-grade handheld breathalyzer with wireless connectivity, facial recognition, and tamper detection. Of the participants, 67% identified as male and the average age was 45 years old.

Upon initial enrollment in the study, a member of the Aware Recovery team provided an overview of how to use the Soberlink device and assisted participants with performing their first breath test. Throughout the study period, participants used the Soberlink device at least twice daily and completed monthly follow-up surveys. The results of each test were categorized as Negative if: their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) was zero and Positive or Missed if: their BAC was greater than zero, their identity was not confirmed via Soberlink’s real-time facial recognition, or their test was not completed during their regularly scheduled time period.

Of the participants who completed the study, 100% reported their substance use decreased and relationships with their family improved since engaging in the program, and 88% said the program helped them to become more self-sufficient/independent.

Focusing on the role that Soberlink played in those outcomes, results showed that participants reported positive feelings about the Soberlink device across 11 satisfaction survey items, including but not limited to:

  • 100% would recommend Soberlink to others
  • 97% found Soberlink easy to use
  • 93% said Soberlink kept them accountable and positively impacted their recovery
  • 91% stated Soberlink improved their ability to resist drinking
  • 86% said Soberlink strengthened the connection to their treatment team

"I love the Soberlink device because it's simple and easy to use. I feel safer using it. It gives me peace of mind knowing I can't fool the device's facial recognition technology. The reporting is instant, so everyone knows if I have a problem immediately. It provides me with accountability to my wife and daughter, knowing that I'm being tested three times a day. I highly recommend Soberlink for helping me to maintain my sobriety," one study participant shared.
