Lou Gianquinto Named President of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut

WALLINGFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield announced today that Lou Gianquinto has been named president of Anthem’s commercial health plan in Connecticut.

“We’re proud to bring the national scale of Anthem with a dedicated local presence to make healthcare simpler and improve lives and communities, and that’s why I’m thrilled to welcome Lou to lead the team,” said Brian Shipp, President, East Region Commercial Business at Anthem. “Lou’s in-depth knowledge of the insurance industry and strong foundation in the Connecticut market will greatly benefit customers, providers and the people we collectively serve.”

Most recently, Gianquinto was president of Missouri Care, Anthem’s Medicaid business in Missouri. Earlier in his career, Gianquinto held several roles in the insurance industry across Connecticut, including with UnitedHealthcare and Oxford Health Plans, where he led initiatives to improve quality, manage costs and increase affordability.

“It’s a privilege to return to my home state of Connecticut and have the opportunity to lead the Anthem team here, which has such deep roots in the community. I look forward to nurturing our relationships across the state and inspiring our team’s pursuit to simplify healthcare and improve lives for our more than one million members and the communities where they live and work,” said Gianquinto. “In these unprecedented times, and over the longer term, we will keep working to deliver innovative solutions, advocate for greater affordability and improve the healthcare experience.”

Gianquinto graduated from Southern Connecticut State University and earned an M.B.A. from the University of New Haven.

He will take over this new role in the beginning of December. Gianquinto succeeds Jill Hummel, who recently retired after seven years as the Connecticut plan president.
