Spartech’s Top Protective Barrier Products Used in Fight Against COVID-19 Pass Rigorous Testing with Crystal-Clear Clarity

ST. LOUIS, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--After undergoing rigorous laboratory testing, Spartech’s seven top protective barrier products withstood over 200 cleaning tests while retaining the highest levels of clarity. Spartech is a leading manufacturer of engineered thermoplastics and custom packaging solutions.

“We are very pleased but not surprised by the laboratory test results,” said Greg Zeis, Vice President, Products and Technology for Spartech. “Our protective barrier materials were given over 200 stringent and thorough cleanings with 10 widely used commercial cleaning and disinfectant products, and all seven retained crystal-clear clarity. There was absolutely no cracking and hazing that can reduce clarity or any loss of gloss retention. There was no degradation at all.”

Used in schools, retail stores, and restaurants to combat the coronavirus, Spartech’s protective barrier products were analyzed for any changes in light transmission, haze, color and gloss. Among the seven protective barrier products tested were Zycryl™, Polycast® DG, Polycast® SR, UltraTuf™, PETG, and DuraGard™ PC. All the products tested are under Spartech’s thick gauge product line featuring PETG, Polycarbonate, Acrylic and Polycast® acrylic sheets.

The tests were conducted over 10 weeks at Spartech’s Innovation Center in St. Louis. Cleaning products were applied to each flat sheet, according to manufacturer’s instructions, simulating real life situations. Measurements were taken at the beginning of the trial and after 50 cleanings thereafter to understand the impact of each cleaner on Spartech’s top selling barrier products.

Spartech has long manufactured the clear plastic materials used to make the personal protective equipment that helps protect first responders and healthcare workers in their daily work assisting their patients. Now the decades of expertise in forming plastic materials is essential in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because Spartech has multiple facilities to process these clear materials, including Stamford, Connecticut; Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Paulding, Ohio; and Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, the company can ensure a constant supply of PPE even during high demand. Spartech’s other facilities that can process the materials are Greenville, Ohio; Muncie, Indiana; and Newark, New Jersey. Having more than one facility that can produce most of its materials uniquely positions Spartech to ensure business continuity even in times of crisis.
