LabShares Newton Announces Next Launch@LabShares Winner

Concerto Biosciences to Receive Free Lab Space worth $50,000

NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LabShares Newton, a shared office and laboratory incubator for emerging biotechnology and life science companies, announced today that Concerto Biosciences is a winner of the Launch@Labshares grant of 1 year of free lab and office space which is valued at $50,000.

Concerto Biosciences, an early-stage startup founded by researchers from MIT and Harvard, unlocks the power of microbes to solve the world’s most challenging problems. Concerto uses a coculture screening platform to discover microbial ensembles––groups of microbes that harmonize to perform beneficial functions for human health, agriculture, and the environment.

"Concerto's goal is to make effective, safe microbial products that transform every aspect of life, including medicine, personal care, farming, and our environment,” said Cheri Ackerman, co-founder and CEO of Concerto, “We're honored to partner with LabShares as we work toward that goal.”

The competitive Launch@LabShares grant award is the result of a search and application process where startup companies that are less than 3 years old, have fewer than 5 employees, and have raised no more than $2m can apply for a year of free lab and office space. Previous winners of the Launch@LabShares award include Savran Technologies and 3 COVID-19 diagnostic companies - DOTS Technology Corp, Mantle Biotech, and NowAware, a subsidiary of Bambu Global.

Jeff Behrens, LabShares CEO commented, “We are excited to be able to support exciting startups like Concerto and play a role in the overall biotech innovation ecosystem that is so important to both the local economy in greater Boston and to healthcare innovation generally.”
