American Water’s Susan Hardwick Honored by Philadelphia Business Journal as a CFO of the Year

CAMDEN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest publicly-traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced that Susan Hardwick, executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO), was recognized by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a CFO of the Year honoree. The award honors those executives who exemplify the professionalism, integrity, resilience, mastery of all the financial and people skills that make a great CFO.

In her current role, Hardwick leads American Water’s financial management and strategy, including directing finance strategy, investor relations, treasury, financial planning, accounting, internal audit, risk management, supply chain, customer service, regulatory services and control functions.

Prior to American Water, Hardwick served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Vectren Corporation, prior to the sale to CenterPoint Energy Company. She has served in leadership positions on a variety of community boards including St. Mary’s Medical Center; Fifth Third Bank (Southern Indiana); the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science; Gilda’s Club of Evansville, and the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series, among many others over the course of her career.

Hardwick has also held numerous leadership and committee roles with the American Gas Association and the Edison Electric Institute, is a CPA and holds an accounting degree from Indiana University.

The Philadelphia Business Journal CFO of the Year Honorees were selected by the Business Journal editorial team from a slate of nominees. Several criteria were used for the selection, including: financial accomplishments, tenure and scope of responsibilities, leadership, respect and influence within the company, community involvement and stewardship of the company’s business model.
