NEW YORK & SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Mexico--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tequila Casa Dragones, the small-batch producer that revolutionized the luxury tequila category with its acclaimed sipping tequilas, announces the release of its first añejo tequila, Casa Dragones Barrel Blend, at $150 a bottle. The 100% Blue Agave añejo tequila expands Casa Dragones’ portfolio for the third time in ten years while furthering its mission to be a leading tequila producer shaping the industry for the future through innovation and modern production. The new tequila is now available in select U.S. and Mexican markets — just in time for Father’s Day.
In 2009, Casa Dragones launched Joven, a pioneering tequila crafted especially for sipping and pairing with food, garnering the attention of award-winning chefs and top sommeliers. Casa Dragones Blanco premiered in 2014 as a pure silver tequila made to enjoy on the rocks or in signature cocktails, engaging a loyal fanbase of mixologists and tequila aficionados in the U.S. and Mexico.
The latest expression, Casa Dragones Barrel Blend, is distinguished by its barrel aging process and rounds out the portfolio by appealing to aged spirits enthusiasts, including those who gravitate towards whiskeys. All of Casa Dragones’ tequilas are handcrafted with a modern, sustainable process of elaboration using the finest lowland agaves and spring water emanating from the headwaters of the Volcano of Tequila.
“Innovation is the foundation of our company. It’s what we like to do best—to explore the possibilities within the tequila category and work on innovating to truly deliver something truly different and special. Which is why I’m so proud to present Casa Dragones Añejo Barrel Blend, a very unique Añejo tequila that complements our sipping tequila portfolio,” says Casa Dragones Co-founder & CEO Bertha González Nieves, the first woman to be accredited as a Maestra Tequilera.
After two years of working with one of France’s most respected cooperages, Casa Dragones custom-made two styles of Oak barrels, exploring the perfect blend of woods to complement, not overpower, the signature taste of Casa Dragones.
“Casa Dragones has another winner,” says internationally renowned chef Thomas Keller of the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group. “It is beautiful, and the body and color are extraordinary.”
Casa Dragones Barrel Blend achieves its distinctive character from being matured in two different wood barrels, new French Oak and new American Oak, each selected for their individual flavor and characteristics, then toasted to impart roundness, light spice notes, and aromatic intensity. At the end of the aging process, Casa Dragones blends both barrel styles together yielding a truly unique agave-forward añejo tequila, with subtle notes of cacao, fig and spice.
“It’s so beautiful and elegant. I get orange blossom, honey, almond, caramel and cedar with a dry and vegetal finish. We don’t typically focus on añejos because they are often shadow the greener flavors of agave plant but there is a place for this añejo,” says Yana Volfson, agave spirits expert and beverage director of ATLA and Cosme in New York and Ticuchi in Mexico City.
Hallmarking Casa Dragones’ craftsmanship, Casa Dragones Barrel Blend is stored in elegant, smoked gray glass perfumer-style bottles individually numbered and signed to correspond to their batch, which yields no more than 500 cases at a time. It is designed to be sipped neat in a whiskey snifter or tulip glass but can also be enjoyed on the rocks or in reserve cocktails. Casa Dragones Barrel Blend retails at $150 a bottle and is available at select spirits retailers and at casadragones.com with restaurants and bars to come.
