GSA, Defense Department’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center Select Booz Allen to Support Joint Warfighting National Mission Initiative

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) today announced that the company has been awarded a five-year, $800 million contract by the GSA’s Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM) and the Department of Defense to provide artificial intelligence (AI) services to support the Joint AI Center (JAIC). Under this task order, awarded through the GSA Alliant 2 Governmentwide Acquisition Contract, Booz Allen will support the JAIC’s Joint Warfighting National Mission Initiative (JWNMI), serving as the prime systems integrator in the development of new artificial intelligence technologies and products to improve operational effectiveness in all domains. In this capacity, Booz Allen will coordinate and work hand-in-hand with industry to source and integrate the best technologies to meet JWNMI's complex requirements and deliver world-class AI capabilities.

The JAIC was established by the DoD in 2018 to seize upon the transformative potential of AI technology for the benefit of U.S. national security. In 2019, the JAIC announced intentions to expand its focus to include joint warfighting operations—increasing combat effectiveness by accelerating military decision-making and operations, guided by the Ethical Principles for AI adopted by the Department of Defense earlier this year. These efforts are in line with the White House’s Executive Order on AI and the release of DoD’s AI strategy, both of which set goals of bringing artificial intelligence to bear to help solve the government’s most challenging problems.

“Booz Allen proudly supports the Defense Department across a range of projects, and we are honored to continue supporting the JAIC in its mission to apply the latest technologies to help ensure our nation’s security,” said Steve Escaravage, a Booz Allen senior vice president and leader of the firm’s analytics and AI business. “AI has transformational potential, but its effectiveness requires both cutting-edge technology and people empowered to put those solutions to work ethically. As the lead integrator, we look forward to combining our deep understanding of both mission and technology to help the JAIC develop and operationalize AI-enabled capabilities across the DoD.”

This task order, orchestrated by GSA FEDSIM with the speed and precision to match the innovation it’s meant to harness, will include a range of technical services and workforce training, such as data engineering, machine learning model development, AI product integration, and transition of AI-enabled solutions into new and existing programs and systems across the Defense Department.

With more than 4,000 analytics practitioners, Booz Allen provides a wide range of technical AI solutions to clients across the U.S. defense, federal government, and private sectors. The firm helps clients solve some of the world’s most complex and sophisticated data problems by accelerating the development and adoption of mission-oriented, human-centered AI at scale.
