Ouster Honored As One of Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces for 2020

  • Ouster wins Inc. Magazine Best Workplaces Award
  • High employee engagement and authentic culture set Ouster apart from over 3000 other applicants
  • Employees leveraged global supply chain to ship PPE to healthcare workers
  • Follows recent CES Innovation Award and Frost & Sullivan Best Practices award

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ouster, a leading provider of high-resolution lidar sensors for autonomous vehicles, robotics, security, and mapping, is named in Inc Magazine’s annual list of the Best Workplaces for 2020. The list is the result of Inc. Magazine’s wide-ranging and comprehensive evaluation of private American companies that have created exceptional workplaces through vibrant cultures, deep employee engagement, and stellar benefits.

Among thousands of applicants, Ouster stood out for its outstanding employee engagement scores, with comments from employees highlighting how each individual is empowered to tackle challenging problems and break new ground in an exciting industry.

“The work at Ouster is engaging, challenging, and fun. I feel like every day I come in, there's always something new and exciting to work on, and I'm rarely bored. Engaging with others is supportive and fun, and my work feels simultaneously highly individual, valued, and known,” wrote one employee.

During the COVID-19 crisis, Ouster’s employees have also quietly rallied to leverage the company’s global supply chain to send thousands of items of Personal Protective Equipment to hospitals in San Francisco and New York City - just one example of the company’s understated culture that places a high value on teamwork and creative solutions to complex problems.

Collecting data from more than 3,000 submissions, Inc. singled out 395 finalists for this year’s list. Each nominated company took part in an employee survey on topics including trust, management effectiveness, perks, and confidence in the future. Inc. gathered, analyzed, and audited the data.

This year, 73.5 percent of surveyed employees were engaged by their work. In contrast, Ouster scored an impressive 92.14 percent in employee engagement.

The strongest engagement scores came from companies that prioritize the most human elements of work. These companies are leading the way in employee recognition, performance management, and diversity. It is a different playbook from a decade ago, when too many firms used the same template: free food, open work environments, and artifacts of “fun.”

“Ouster places a high value on hiring and developing a diverse workforce to build and sell our digital lidar products. We trust and empower our employees, so offering a compelling benefits package is a natural and obvious choice for us. Receiving a prestigious award like the Inc. Magazine Best Workplaces award is, to me, a recognition of the great work our team has done to build an authentic culture and make every employee feel valued,” said Angus Pacala, CEO of Ouster.

“Building a great corporate culture comes only from strong leadership,” says Inc. magazine editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk. “The companies on Inc.’s Best Workplaces list are setting an example that the whole country can learn from, especially now, when company culture is more important to the workforce than ever.”
