Citizens Against Government Waste Proposals Included in Trump FY 2021 Budget

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) President Tom Schatz issued the following statement following the release of President Donald Trump’s fiscal year (FY) 2021 budget proposals for “Major Savings and Reforms”:

“Every taxpayer dollar that is wasted is a dollar not spent on the critical functions of the federal government, which is why rooting out waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement is so important. Thousands of federal programs are duplicative, fragmented, or outside of the purview of the federal government.

“On October 2, 2019, CAGW released 620 recommendations to cut to wasteful and duplicative programs, saving taxpayers $433.8 billion in the first year and $3.9 trillion over five years. We are thrilled that President Trump’s budget included 80 percent of our Prime Cuts 2019 recommendations to help slash the federal debt.

“Cutting government waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement has proven to be the most difficult task in Washington. While the president’s budget tackles numerous wasteful programs, more can be done to balance the federal budget in less than 15 years. We encourage President Trump to continue his efforts on behalf of taxpayers to cut wasteful spending and implement private-sector principles to make the federal government more efficient and effective.”
