Feinstein Institutes CEO to Present Elsberg Lecture About Bioelectronic Medicine

Kevin J. Tracey, MD, selected to present prestigious neurosurgery lecture

MANHASSET, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research President and CEO Kevin J. Tracey, MD, will present the New York Society for Neurosurgery (NYSN) 2020 Elsberg Lecture about the emerging field of bioelectronic medicine. Dr. Tracey’s lecture will be delivered January 29 at 6:30 pm at The University Club of New York.

The Elsberg Lecture is named for Charles. A. Elsberg, one of the founding fathers of modern neurosurgery. Dr. Tracey’s lecture titled, “Bioelectronic Medicine – The New Frontier in Neurosurgery,” will expand the medical and scientific community’s knowledge of bioelectronic medicine. Dr. Tracey’s will outline his discovery of the inflammatory reflex, which has contributed greatly to the emerging field of bioelectronic medicine. His research found that the vagus nerve, a nerve located in the neck, is involved in controlling inflammation. Bioelectronic medicine builds on this discovery and looks to use technology to tap into the nervous system to help the body treat disease and injury without the use of pharmaceuticals or experiencing significant side effects.

Current president of NYSN, Raj K. Narayan, MD, will introduce Dr. Tracey at the event. Dr. Narayan is a Feinstein Institutes professor in the Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine and Northwell Health’s senior vice president and executive director of neurosurgery services.
