Reminder: Sleep Better Austin & The International Academy of Sleep Announces the Sleep Saves Lives Event in Austin, TX, September 12 – Sleep Apnea Oral Appliances Will Be Given Away for Free

AUSTIN, Texas--()--This is a reminder that Sleep Better Austin at Hedgecock Dental is seeking to identify sleep apnea candidates for the Sleep Saves Lives event and will make eight free appliances for patients fitting the required profile for care.

The first annual “Sleep Saves Lives” event is coming to Austin, TX, on September 12, 2019. An annual outreach project of the International Academy of Sleep, Sleep Saves Lives offers free sleep apnea treatment to patients who fit the required profile for care. The event is being organized by Dr. Max Kerr, Dr. Brandon Hedgecock, and Dr. Andrew Edmonds of Sleep Better Austin, who will manage and direct the planning, preparation, and presentation of the event. It will be held at their Sleep Better Austin location at Hedgecock Dental, 5920 W William Cannon, Bldg. #6, Ste 210, Austin, TX 78749.

“Millions of Americans suffer from the potentially deadly effects of undiagnosed sleep apnea,” explains Dr. Avi Weisfogel, Director of the International Academy of Sleep. “Health is compromised, relationships are ruined, and lives are even lost when this disease goes untreated. The Sleep Saves Lives initiative is our attempt to make a big impact in the lives of those who might not otherwise be able to afford the simple but powerful treatments that are now available.”

There are currently an estimated 22 million Americans with sleep apnea of whom only 10% have been diagnosed and are receiving treatment. Another 90% of sleep apnea sufferers are untreated. When you consider that the consequences of untreated sleep apnea are high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, moodiness, extreme fatigue and an increased risk of stroke and heart attack, it becomes evident that this sleeping disorder is a national health crisis that needs greater attention and focus from both physicians and dentists.

The doctors at Sleep Better Austin are hoping potential candidates will be identified by referring physicians, but are willing to speak to anyone who has received a diagnosis of sleep apnea and who don’t have the money to treat it. The dentists need to have identified candidates and taken dental impressions of suitable patients by August 24, so they can make the eight free appliances.
