SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spectra7 Microsystems Inc. (TSX:SEV) (“Spectra7” or the “Company”), a leading provider of high-performance analog semiconductor products for broadband connectivity markets, announced that it has achieved robust error free performance with Mellanox ConnectX-5 network adapters configured for Ethernet low latency CA-N transmission. The testing included Spectra7 enabled active copper cables (ACCs) up to 4m in length, which is double the length of passive direct attach cables (DACs) that are available for these demanding applications.
Currently, only DAC cables with a maximum length of 2m can achieve the CA-N specification and requirements. Longer DAC cables require FEC which increases the latency by up to 120ns per connection in each direction.
The IEEE 100G CA-N specification was created to enable the lowest latency server-to-server connections for demanding deep learning and artificial intelligence applications. For the first time, these connections can now span multiple racks, enabling larger radix switches and more efficient and faster computations.
The deep learning market is expected to exceed more than US$ 18 Billion by 2024 at a CAGR of 42%.1 Key players include IBM Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, Google Inc., Intel Corporation, and Hewlett Packard.
"Mellanox is a market leader in high performance and deep learning computing," said Spectra7 CEO Raouf Halim. "Achieving this benchmark on their equipment is significant and will accelerate adoption of our technology in this rapidly growing market."
