Nokia Joins the Avanci Licensing Platform

Avanci’s one-stop marketplace for the Internet of Things now includes all 2G, 3G, and 4G standard-essential patents from 20 companies

DALLAS--()--Avanci announced today that Nokia, a global leader in creating technology to connect the world, has joined its licensing platform. As the twentieth patent owner to participate in the Avanci marketplace, Nokia brings one of the most extensive portfolios of essential 2G, 3G and 4G patents into Avanci’s one-stop solution for IoT manufacturers.

“Our vision has always been to create a one-stop marketplace for IoT manufacturers and wireless patent owners that enables more efficient technology sharing and streamlined innovation,” said Kasim Alfalahi, founder and chief executive officer of Avanci. “With Nokia joining the Avanci platform, we have truly realized that vision as Avanci now offers a license covering a vast majority of the world’s cellular standard essential patents and we are proud to have their trust in our model.”

“In discussions with the automotive industry, they have underscored the need to simplify the licensing process,” said Jenni Lukander, senior vice president and head of Patent Business at Nokia. “With Nokia joining the Avanci platform, they now have more choice in taking a license to cover our portfolio of 2G, 3G and 4G standard essential cellular patents.”

Avanci’s licensing platform has now grown four-fold from five patent owners at its launch to the 20 patent owners that participate today. Avanci looks forward to welcoming further companies to the marketplace that are either seeking to add connectivity to their IoT products or seeking to share their standard-essential wireless patents.
