Accenture Positioned as a Leader in an IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Life Sciences Research & Development Vendor Assessment on IT Outsourcing for Third Consecutive Time

NEW YORK--()--For the third consecutive time, Accenture (NYSE:ACN) is positioned as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape vendor assessment covering IT outsourcing (ITO) across the life sciences research and development (R&D) industry.

The report, “IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Life Science R&D ITO 2018 Vendor Assessment" (IDC #US44023818, June 2018), examines the current life sciences R&D ITO landscape, including industry and market trends, and compares 11 major vendors against the criteria most important for life sciences companies to consider when selecting a service provider.

“Accenture carries a legacy of strong IT services to the industry, a broad customer base, and significant success in engaging prominent pharmaceutical companies,” notes Alan Louie, Ph.D., research director for IDC Health Insights Life Sciences practice in his report. “These capabilities and the company’s strong commitment to innovation in this important industry sector will routinely position Accenture as a formidable competitor in the ITO and broader R&D IT services market.”

Kevin Julian, senior managing director in Accenture’s Life Sciences practice, said, “Recognition such as this IDC MarketScape Leader positioning comes as a direct result of Accenture’s differentiated approach to delivering ITO strategies, services and offerings, which is centered upon supporting the industry’s commitment to the discovery of life-changing solutions for patients. Because the IDC MarketScape reports are based in part on client feedback, it’s especially gratifying to be recognized for our collaboration, intellectual contributions and ability to deliver on complex projects. Accenture is committed to continued investment in our people, methods and technologies to help our clients lead with innovation.”

Accenture also was positioned as a Leader for the third consecutive time in another recent report: “IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Life Science R&D BPO 2018 Vendor Assessment" (IDC #US42144618, June 2018).

In naming Accenture’s Life Sciences practice as an ITO Leader, this latest IDC MarketScape looked at:

  • Breadth of services offered, depth of related project experience, and number of customers Accenture serves;
  • Geographical footprint and global delivery capabilities, level of priority and focus by Accenture on the life sciences R&D sector, and the pace of investment in related life sciences capabilities;
  • Life sciences’ industry-specific expertise, corporate financial stability, and ability to accommodate different types and sizes of life sciences clients; and
  • Customer references to examine vendor capabilities surrounding project management, IT technical skills, account management, and overall value delivery to clients.

For the purposes of this study, ITO includes outsourcing of all services, including call centers, customer support, and any other ongoing, well-characterized repetitive processes that occur within the R&D ecosystem. In the report analysis, IDC Health Insights divided potential key measures for success into two primary categories: capabilities and strategies. The assessment includes client references.
