April Johnson Named Vice President of Claims at BETA Healthcare Group

ALAMO, Calif.--()--BETA Healthcare Group (BETA) announced today that April Johnson has been named Vice President of Claims effective January 1, 2019, following the retirement of Andrea Raub at the end of 2018. Ms. Johnson is currently the Vice President of Alternative Risk and Insurance Services and is actively involved in business development, operations and overall management of the professional liability claims staff in BETA’s Southern California offices. In her new role, Ms. Johnson will assume responsibility for the management of the entire professional liability Claims Department and her business development and operational duties will be consolidated under Insurance Operations.

Retirement of a long-term leader often presents a unique challenge for an organization to hire a successor who can seamlessly and effectively assume management of the department with minimal disruption. BETA has been fortunate to have had two strong leaders in its Claims Department for many years, and April was the obvious choice to succeed Andrea. Already intimately involved with the management of the claims staff, this will be a natural transition for her,” said Tom Wander, BETA’s Chief Executive Officer. “I am honored and privileged to be selected for this position. I look forward to building upon the many initiatives begun by Andrea, ensuring we maintain our ethical, economical and efficient approach to claims handling and further enhancing our reputation for providing excellent claims services to our members and insureds,” added Ms. Johnson.

Ms. Johnson has worked at BETA for more than 18 years and has been involved in claims department supervision and management for 16 years. Before joining BETA in 1999, she was a senior associate with a large national insurance defense law firm, specializing in medical professional liability and employment practices liability. She has a Bachelor of Science degree with High Honors in Business Administration from San Diego State University and a Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from University of San Diego School of Law. She has earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM).
