Inmarsat Partners with Isotropic Systems in Technology Development Agreement for a Next-Generation Ka-band Mobility Antenna

Disruptive technology and pricing will open new markets for satellite industry

WASHINGTON--()--Isotropic Systems, the next-generation satellite terminal provider, has engaged in a strategic technology development agreement with Inmarsat to develop a state-of-the-art, all electronic scanning antenna for potential use with Inmarsat’s growing constellation of high-throughput Global Xpress satellites. The partnership shows Inmarsat’s confidence in Isotropic Systems’ disruptive optical array technology and its market-focused business plan to expand the range of future mobility applications supported by the global high-throughput satellite (HTS) capacity now delivered by Inmarsat’s Ka-band Global Xpress network.

Isotropic Systems’ transformational technology will produce a next generation low-cost, fully electronic tracking terminal that will allow Inmarsat to extend its reach into new market sectors. Inmarsat is working with Isotropic Systems to develop a range of terminal solutions to further enable the company’s network of channel partners. Isotropic Systems will develop terminals specifically tailored to Inmarsat’s requirements with special focus on multi-beam capability, providing market-leading instantaneous bandwidth, as well as significantly lower pricing and power consumption. This innovative capability will allow Inmarsat to maintain two simultaneous satellite links for capacity enhancement and seamless handovers across both existing and future Global Xpress HTS satellites.

“As global demand for broadband consistently increases, Inmarsat continues to reinforce its leading role in providing HTS capacity services, enabling the company to remain the standard in the industry for mobility,” said John Finney, founder and CEO of Isotropic Systems. “Our unique technical capabilities and disruptive pricing enables Inmarsat to unlock further latent demand for HTS capacity in segments previously unaddressed because of terminal cost without compromising on performance. To have sought and gained the confidence of the world’s leading mobile broadband satellite operator reinforces our vision of satisfying the demand for satellite data, mobility and broadband services significantly undercutting the cost of existing ground terminals.”

Inmarsat quote:

“We are very pleased to work with Isotropic Systems as leaders in opening and addressing new market opportunities based on their innovative array optics technology,” said Peter Hadinger, CTO of Inmarsat. “Inmarsat is enabling the connected world with cost-effective solutions to serve customers across a wide variety of enterprise-user communities. This investment along with many others enables Inmarsat to continue fortifying Global Xpress to serve and enable our ecosystem of channel partners and distributors.”

Isotropic Systems founder John Finney will be the keynote speaker at SATELLITE 2018 in Washington, D.C. today. More information is available at the Satellite Show online here. Members of the press are welcome.
