Students with Visual Disabilities Learn to Code At TechLaunch at Florida Vocational Institute

MIAMI--()--TechLaunch at Florida Vocational Institute is providing a free coding class to members of Miami Lighthouse for the Blind on Saturday, January 27th, 2018. The goal is to show these students that coding is fun and anyone who can use a computer can code. The visually impaired students are going to learn basic JavaScript and other key concepts and tools.

Miami Lighthouse for the Blind is a foundation dedicated to helping people with visual disabilities achieve success in their lives. With the use of their positive motto, "It is possible to see without sight" the foundation seeks to provide the upmost care to all their students in assisting them in their future endeavors.

“TechLaunch at FVI is committed to Web Development education, and we believe that coding is the future and everyone should learn the language of code,” said Denyse Antunes, the college’s President. “It’s important to remember that education goals for students with visual impairments are essentially the same as those for all students. TechLaunch is committed to closing the gap for access to coding bootcamps for minorities, economically disadvantaged students and anyone that wants to learn to code.”

Miami Lighthouse for the Blind ranked among the top non-profits in the nation, and their mission statement is “To provide vision rehabilitation and eye health services that promote independence, to collaborate with and educate professionals, and to conduct research in related fields.” According to Reinaldo Sanchez, the Education Services Coordinator at Miami Lighthouse, “this partnership with TechLaunch at FVI will expose even more opportunity to the people we serve in an area that is tied to the future of business and technology.”

The session will be held on Jan 27th at 10am at FVI's West Miami location.
