LAS VEGAS & SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Douglas Benner, Chief Medical Officer of EK Health Services®, Inc. ("EK Health") will provide a physician’s view on medical treatment of injured workers during The National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference® & Expo Nov. 20-22 in Las Vegas.
Benner will join other experts for two separate programs to speak on how timing and type of care impact medical outcomes, and offer his perspective on working within medical treatment guidelines when guidelines vary.
Both programs are being held Thursday Nov. 21 and include Physicians Speak Out on Whether More Care Early Equals Better Outcomes from 10:45 a.m.-12 p.m., and Emerging Trends in the Adopting of Medical Treatment Guidelines from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m.
The first program addresses research showing that paying for more medical care early in a workers’ compensation claim produces the best medical and cost outcomes, a finding that is contrary to most utilization review guidelines. The second program delves into the challenge of knowing which medical treatment guidelines work and which ones don’t when many guidelines exist.
Benner brings expertise as the top medical executive of EK Health, a leading national workers’ compensation managed care company, and credentials as diplomat of the American Board of Preventative Medicine in Occupational Medicine.
As founding Medical Director of Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California’s Employee Health Services until 2011, which included over 70,000 employees and physicians, Benner was named among “The Most Influential People in California Workers' Compensation” in 2010 by Workers’ Comp Executive.
